The Membership

Membership of the IDHEE is open to students, installers, designers, specifiers and consulting engineers involved in domestic central heating systems.

If you carry out any of the above disciplines what better way to demonstrate your professionalism than joining with like-minded members in the Institute.

Entry requirements:
Student
StudentIDHEE
Enrolled on a course of study leading to a building mechanical services qualification.
EAIDHEE For qualified Domestic Energy Assessors to have access to advice from qualified heating engineers.

To become an Energy Assessor Member you need to:

  1. be a qualified and accredited Domestic Energy Assessor,
  2. commit to continuing your professional development within the industry's energy and allied sectors.

Technician

City & Guilds 6189 - NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Installing and Maintaining Domestic Heating Systems.

To become a Technician Member you need to:

  1. be engaged in domestic heating or environmental engineering and will have completed an Institute approved educational course such as Gas Safe, HETAS, OFTEC or an environmental heating course
  2. have passed such other alternative examination as the Executive Council may approve as equal and exempting therefrom

To become an Associate Member you need to:

  1. be able to demonstrate that you possess competent knowledge and adequate experience in domestic heating or environmental engineering, e.g. stage one of the IDHEE heating design course
  2. have been engaged therein in a position of technical responsibility for a period of not less than two years and be engaged in domestic heating or environmental engineering at the time of your application
  3. hold such qualification as the Executive Council considers equivalent and thereby exempting from the Institutes Associate Membership entry examination

To become an Full Member you need to:

  1. be able to prove that you possess comprehensive knowledge of and considerable experience in domestic heating or environmental engineering, e.g. stage two of the IDHEE heating design course
  2. have been engaged in a position of responsibility for a period of not less than five years and be so engaged at the time of your application
  3. hold such qualification and/or be an elected member of an approved professional body

To become an Cunsultant Member you need to:

  1. be able to prove that you possess comprehensive knowledge of and considerable experience in domestic heating or environmental engineering, e.g. stage three of the IDHEE heating design course
  2. have held a position of responsibility within the industry for a period of five to ten years
  3. have spent three of those ten years in a position of superior professional responsibility
  4. hold current Professional Indemnity Insurance (with copy held by the IDHEE)

By invitation from Council for contribution to industry, or
City & Guilds 4467 - Mechanical Engineering Services

In general the grade of Fellow is only granted through particular recommendation of a candidate being brought to the notice of the Executive Council

To become a Fellow of the IDHEE you need to:

  1. already be a member
  2. submit proof of exceptional ability and outstanding merit in the profession and industry of domestic heating or environmental engineering
  3. be invited to upgrade by a member of the Executive Council
